Day 3 – Oasis of Palms and Columns
Today we follow the desert road to Palmyra, one of the most impressive ruins of the Orient. We see the impressive Baal Temple, the Colonnade with the Theater and Agora. Then drive through the desert to Homs. Overnight in Homs
Day 4 – Homs, Apamea, Hama, Ebla, Aleppo
Drive on the highway to Hama, the city of the famous waterwheels. Continue to Apamea, with a walk along the colonnaded street from the Hellenistic-Roman period. Then to Ebla, probably the most important city of Syria in the 3rd millennium BC. Italian archaeologists discovered over 20,000 clay tablets alongside the remains of magnificent buildings, documenting the life of this metropolis. Continue to Aleppo. Overnight in Aleppo
Day 5 – The Trading City of Aleppo
Aleppo forms the central hub between Mesopotamia and Europe; here the trade routes from Mosul, Istanbul, Latakia, and Damascus meet. Visit the National Museum to get an overview of the most important archaeological sites of Northern Syria. In the Old City, stroll through the busy bazaar, visit the Great Mosque and Khan al-Wazir. From the Citadel hill, enjoy a beautiful panoramic view over the city. Overnight in Aleppo
Day 6 – Simeon Monastery, Krak des Chevaliers, Damascus
Drive to the Simeon Monastery, the most important pilgrimage site from early Christian times. Continue on the highway to the Crusader castle Krak des Chevaliers, the best-preserved fortress of the Near East. Evening arrival in Damascus. Overnight in Damascus
Day 7 – Departure
